WHAT CHANGED IN THIS VERSION

  • DeepSeek is no longer the lab that never raised. A first external round of about RMB 51bn in June, a valuation near $74bn by July, and an IPO in preparation.
  • The “six tigers” are no longer one weight class. Moonshot's pre-IPO target of $50bn is nearly four times the listed MiniMax; Baichuan and 01.AI have left frontier training.
  • Two new arrivals from outside the list. Xiaomi's MiMo took the OpenRouter weekly crown; ModelBest started its IPO tutoring process.
  • “US incumbents don't build frontier models” has been overturned. Microsoft, Amazon and Meta are all training in-house again.
  • The IPO race is over. Anthropic goes alone; OpenAI's CFO has moved it to 2027.
  • Government is now a node on the map. The Pentagon blacklist, and the 27–28 August ruling that struck it down.
